Time and again, the wonderful world of illustration, manga and anime prove to us that the sky is the limit. Therefore, we decided to hold in cooperation with
Orshina Cultural Space - a house for Japanese events in Tel Aviv the event
"Manga: encounters behind the scenes".
About the Event
A conversation with the manga artist Makoto Tanaka, who put us in the shoes of the "mangaka" and provided us with a rare glimpse into this tremendous world: the hard work, the competition in the industry, the sources of inspiration and the many possibilities it provides - to share knowledge, get to know the other, activate the imagination and create wonderful things.. And of course - to create strong and long-term ties between Japan and Israel.
A conversation with Ilona Plot, who is at the beginning of her career as an independent illustrator and has already had impressive achievements in the field. Ilona gave the participants useful ideas and advice regarding finding sources of inspiration, imagination, perseverance and desire. We look forward to seeing how Ilona, as an Israeli representative, will continue to use the world of illustration to strengthen the connection with Japan, express her talent and make her dreams come true.
An exciting musical performance by the brothers Yaara Mokady and Zohar Mokady-Amar. The brothers played us great arrangements on harp and saxophone of works by Joe Hisaishi, who wrote the music for Hayao Miyazaki's films

Meet the Participants
Makoto Tanaka
Manga artist, graduate of the Musashino Academy of Music in Tokyo, Japan. As of 2022, operates on and off the social network in order to share information about Jewish culture and Israel. Studying Hebrew at the Hebrew Culture Association in Japan. Among her prominent projects are a poster illustration commemorating the 70th anniversary of Israel-Japan diplomatic relations and a brochure illustration commemorating the launch of a direct Tel Aviv->Tokyo flight, by El Al's branch in Japan.
Ilona Plot
Artist and illustrator, graduate of the visual communication department at Shenkar College. Owner of "Noh by Ilona" brand. Researches the traditional and modern art of Japan, with an emphasis on Noh theater.
Erina Furakawa
A professional pastry chef who specializes in traditional Japanese and Western desserts. Owner of "Peco Sweets".
Tomoko Nakamura
Lived in Israel for many years, connecting Israeli and Japanese companies and founder of the New-IJ women's group. Tomoko's favorite hobby is Japanese food, and she conducts Japanese food workshops in Israel.
Zohar Mokady-Amar
Saxophonist, pianist and composer, who lives in New York and finished his first year at the Manhattan School of Music for a master's degree in jazz. Zohar plays and composes innovative and original music that is influenced by Japanese styles such as J-pop and anime rock, and recorded a first album with his band Friendy under the GSI label and just finished recording their second album which will be released in September 2023.
Yaara Mokady
Harp player born in 2000. Master's student at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in the "Tedarim" program. An active player in the Israeli harp community, she performed at the Summa Cum Laude festival. She won the Israeli harp competition three times, participated in the CEME competition with a string ensemble, and recently performed at the Contemporary Music from Israel festival at the University of Iowa.
Noa Shuster
Travels and studies tribal cultures in distant countries - mainly in Asia. Traveled and explored Japan for a year and a half, stayed in local Japanese communities and experienced the life of a Buddhist temple. These days she designs and creates clothes, dyes fabrics from natural materials, traditional needlework and sewing.
Norico Tozawa and Sho Igawa-Attias
Bavuah is a graphic novel creation unit based in Israel, consisting of Norico Tozawa and Sho Igawa Atias.In December 2021, Bavuah's book "The Israel No One Knows: Life in the Ultimate Immigrant State" was published by the publisher Kadensha. Outside of Bavuah, Norico is a PhD student researcher and Sho is an English teacher
